Welcome to the Shark Bay World Heritage Property. The Shire of Shark Bay is made up of two peninsulas on the western most point of Australia. It covers an area of 25,000 square kilometres and has a population of 984 people. It includes a main town of Denham, Francois Peron National Park, a mining site operation – Useless Loop, two roadhouses - Overlander Roadhouse and Billabong Roadhouse, and the following stations – Dirk Hartog Island, Faure Island, Hamelin, Nanga, Tamala, Carrarang, Carbla, Coburn, Nerren Nerren, Meadow, Yalardy, Woodleigh and Gilroyd.
The main town Denham is situated on the Peron Penisula and is 130 km west from the (Overlander Roadhouse on the North West Coastal Highway). Denham is above the 26th parallel, 832 km north of Perth, an approximate eight hour drive by road or three hour flight by light aircraft.

Airport
The airport is approximately 8 kms from Denham along Monkey Mia Road. Skywest Airline is the airline service operating from Denham.Banking
Banking facilities are available from Denham Post Office between hours of 9.00 am – 4.30 pm Monday to Friday. ATM machines are available at Shark Bay Supermarket and the Heritage Resort. EFTPOS is available from Shark Bay and Tradewinds Supermarkets, Heritage Resort, Shark Bay Hotel, Caltex Garage and Monkey Mia.Boat Ramps
There are five boat ramps in the Shire available for public use. A Fish Cleaning Facility is located at the west end of Knight Terrace. Visitors are reminded that the cleaning of fish along the Denham Foreshore and Monkey Mia beaches is prohibited.Link

Chemist
There is a resident Chemist/Pharmacist situated in the Newsagency/Post Office building in Knight Terrace, Denham.
Cyclone season
For the area of Shark Bay is from November to the end of April. A brief list of community warnings in case of a cyclone are as follows:Warning #1
– Blue AlertA Blue Alert indicates that the cyclone is not yet a direct threat.
Warning #2
– Yellow AlertA yellow alert indicates that the cyclone is likely to cause high winds in these areas.
Warning #3
– Red AlertA red alert indicates that the cyclone will have destructive force in theses areas very soon.
Warning #4
The cyclone has passed over, however wind strength remains high.Warning #5

DEC (Department of Environment and Conservation) Office
The DEC office is open between 8.00 am and 5.00 pm weekdays and is located on Knight Terrace. Ph (08) 9948 1208.
Dogs
The Shire has strict dog control laws which must be abided by. All dogs must be on a leash when in public (unless in designated exercise areas) and be registered.Please click here for further information.
Fires
Total fire ban applies from November to April each year. To burn rubbish at other time permit must be obtained from the Shire.Please click here for further information.
Fisheries Department Office
The Fisheries office is located along Knight Terrace next to the Shire office. Ph (08) 9948 1210. Please note that fishing regulations are very strict in this World Heritage Area.Please click here for further information.
Fresh Water
Drinking water is available from a vending machine situated at the Water Authority on the Monkey Mia Road.Fuel
Shark Bay Fuel and Service on Knight Terrace carries Auto Gas, Diesel, Unleaded and Super fuel. Diesel, Unleaded and Super fuel is available at Shark Bay and Tradewinds Supermarkets. Diesel and Unleaded fuel is obtainable at Monkey Mia Dolphin Resort.Police Station
The Police Station is situated at the corner of Durlacher and Hughes Street. The Station is open between 8.00 am and 4.00 pm and is on call 24 hours.Ph (08) 9948 1201.

Rubbish
Rubbish removal service in Denham is Tuesday and Friday mornings. All rubbish must be in a wheely bin and put out by 7.00am on these days.Please click here for more information on Waste Collection and Disposal.
Shark Bay School
is situated at 55 Francis Road, Denham, and caters for studends from Kingergarten to Year 12. A new school, opened in March 2007, has state-of-the-art facilities and works closely with the community to live up to its motto of "Learning in Harmony".
