At the Shire’s July 2020 Ordinary Council Meeting, Council resolved to advocate for a reduction in the fish fillet possession limit from 20 kilograms of fish fillet to 10 kilograms, per person for recreational fishing in the Shark Bay Marine Park.
The Shire was pleased to receive a response from the Minister for Fisheries Honourable Peter Tinley supporting the Councils proposal. Recfishwest have also provided support for the ongoing sustainability of our fish resources, including the introduction of a trip limit of 10 kilograms of demersal scale fish fillets. The Minister has advised draft amendment to the Fish Resources Management Regulations 1995 will reflect the new fish fillet limits.
If the draft is approved, an announcement will be made by the Minister for Fisheries, it is anticipated that these changes will be introduced prior to Shark Bay’s peak winter tourism period.
