What is the Strategic Community Plan?

The Strategic Community Plan provides a long term (10+ years) plan for the Shire, expressing the vision, aspirations and priorities of the community. It is the Shire’s principal strategy document, influencing all other planning and decision making for the Shire of Shark Bay. Community engagement underpins the Strategic Community Plan.

An essential element of the development process is to enable community members and stakeholders to participate in shaping the future of the community, identifying issues and solutions.

This Plan outlines how the Shire will, over the long term, work towards a bright future for the community, as it seeks to achieve its vision inspired by the community’s aspirations and objectives.

What is the Corporate Business Plan?

Achieving the community’s vision and the Shire’s strategic objectives require development of actions to address each strategy contained within the Strategic Community Plan. Careful operational planning and prioritisation is required due to limited resources. The corporate business planning is undertaken with consideration of long term financial, asset management and workforce planning. The Corporate Business Plan puts the Strategic Community Plan into action via the Annual Budget.

A core component of corporate business planning includes service delivery considerations over a 4-year period, aligned to the strategic direction identified during the strategic community planning, and accompanied by financial projections.

What is the Council Plan 2025 - 2035?

Following this review, the Shire of Shark Bay will develop an updated integrated strategic plan, being the Council Plan, combining the Strategic Community Plan and Corporate Business Plan into one document, reflecting their strategic alignment and integration. This integrated approach aligns with the foreshadowed changes to legislation that are part of the Department of Local Government, Industry Regulation and Safety (LGIRS) Local Government Act reform process currently underway.

Community Facilities Update

Town Hall closure

The Denham Town Hall, opened on 22 January 1977, has been part of our community for almost 50 years. We recognise the special place this iconic venue holds in our community and the many cherished memories it carries for those who have gathered there over the years.

The Shire has recently identified significant structural issues in the Town Hall foundations. This poses a significant risk to community safety and as a result, the Denham Town Hall is no longer available for community use or hire. We understand this has created a gap in the spaces available for community meetings, programs and events. Community safety remains the Shire’s priority, and we appreciate the community’s understanding.

Planning for our future

The Shire of Shark Bay recognises the highly important role community facilities play in bringing people together and supporting local activities, services and events. We want to share recent developments in relation to our community facilities.

In response to the gap in community facilities, the Shire is exploring options for a new, energy-efficient and climate-responsive Shark Bay Community Precinct in Denham.

The proposed precinct could include:

                              • community meeting rooms
                              • public library services
                              • training, learning and digital access spaces
                              • youth-focused facilities
                              • spaces for local businesses and visiting service providers
                              • Shire customer service and administration
                              • outdoor gathering and event spaces.
